Excerpt from programme:
Shrewsbury Cantata Choir gives a very warm welcome to our french friends; Les Voix Amies, fine singers from Hesdin near Boulogne. Ian Ward, their Musical Director is an old friend of the Cantata choir having founded it some 30 years ago, can this be possible?!
Our joint programme is nothing if not eclectic and we hope you’ll all enjoy it as much as we will.
However, a note of caution, representatives from the choir have been invited by the UK government to join consultation over future visa requirements for visiting EU choristers and we are pushing for border testing; a small shed will be erected at the ferry terminal and all tenors will need to demonstrate a clear sustained B flat and near faultless semi-quaver runs before being granted visas. Conditions for other sections are currently under consideration. The Cantata Choir will be practising hard in case of any counter measures from the French before their planned return visit to Hesdin in 2017.
